Team Information

Dr Sunaina Gowan is a seasoned higher education academic who is dedicated to educational quality. She has served on the Academic Board, the Research Committee, the Ethics Committee, the Learning and Teaching Committee, and the Student Engagement Committee, in addition to managing internal and external reviews and the development of new courses. She has worked in education and management for over 21 years, teaching both postgraduate and undergraduate students and supervising Master of Business Research and PhD students as well as writing and developing new courses. During this period, she has distinguished herself in higher education administration by serving in governance roles, promoting education, and working for humanitarian causes. Her research interests include student development and belonging, environmental concerns, principles of responsible business and education, diversity, inclusiveness, and emotional labour. Her experience is in organisational capability development, multiliteracies pedagogies, internationalisation of education, socio-cultural approaches to identity, and constructing sustainable operations. Her book ‘The Ethnically Diverse Workplace’ is scheduled to be released by Emerald Publications in early 2023. Sunaina has also committed her time to charity and non-profit initiatives, such as assisting migrant women in adjusting to life in Australia through the co-founding of Lean In Inc. She is also a member of the Macquarie University DVCA Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Principles for Responsible Management and Education (PRME) committee and Internship Program Director of the education chapter of AIBC.
